What is PageRank?
PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.
PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results. It isn't the only factor that Google uses to rank pages, but it is an important one.
From here on in, we'll occasionally refer to PageRank as "PR".
Notes:
Not all links are counted by Google. For instance, they filter out links from known link farms. Some links can cause a site to be penalized by Google. They rightly figure that webmasters cannot control which sites link to their sites, but they can control which sites they link out to. For this reason, links into a site cannot harm the site, but links from a site can be harmful if they link to penalized sites. So be careful which sites you link to. If a site has PR0, it is usually a penalty, and it would be unwise to link to it.
How is PageRank calculated?
To calculate the PageRank for a page, all of its inbound links are taken into account. These are links from within the site and links from outside the site.
PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + ... + PR(tn)/C(tn))
That's the equation that calculates a page's PageRank. It's the original one that was published when PageRank was being developed, and it is probable that Google uses a variation of it but they aren't telling us what it is. It doesn't matter though, as this equation is good enough.
In the equation 't1 - tn' are pages linking to page A, 'C' is the number of outbound links that a page has and 'd' is a damping factor, usually set to 0.85.
We can think of it in a simpler way:-
a page's PageRank = 0.15 + 0.85 * (a "share" of the PageRank of every page that links to it)
"share" = the linking page's PageRank divided by the number of outbound links on the page.
A page "votes" an amount of PageRank onto each page that it links to. The amount of PageRank that it has to vote with is a little less than its own PageRank value (its own value * 0.85). This value is shared equally between all the pages that it links to.
From this, we could conclude that a link from a page with PR4 and 5 outbound links is worth more than a link from a page with PR8 and 100 outbound links. The PageRank of a page that links to yours is important but the number of links on that page is also important. The more links there are on a page, the less PageRank value your page will receive from it.
If the PageRank value differences between PR1, PR2,.....PR10 were equal then that conclusion would hold up, but many people believe that the values between PR1 and PR10 (the maximum) are set on a logarithmic scale, and there is very good reason for believing it. Nobody outside Google knows for sure one way or the other, but the chances are high that the scale is logarithmic, or similar. If so, it means that it takes a lot more additional PageRank for a page to move up to the next PageRank level that it did to move up from the previous PageRank level. The result is that it reverses the previous conclusion, so that a link from a PR8 page that has lots of outbound links is worth more than a link from a PR4 page that has only a few outbound links.
Whichever scale Google uses, we can be sure of one thing. A link from another site increases our site's PageRank. Just remember to avoid links from link farms.
Note that when a page votes its PageRank value to other pages, its own PageRank is not reduced by the value that it is voting. The page doing the voting doesn't give away its PageRank and end up with nothing. It isn't a transfer of PageRank. It is simply a vote according to the page's PageRank value. It's like a shareholders meeting where each shareholder votes according to the number of shares held, but the shares themselves aren't given away. Even so, pages do lose some PageRank indirectly, as we'll see later.
Ok so far? Good. Now we'll look at how the calculations are actually done.
For a page's calculation, its existing PageRank (if it has any) is abandoned completely and a fresh calculation is done where the page relies solely on the PageRank "voted" for it by its current inbound links, which may have changed since the last time the page's PageRank was calculated.
The equation shows clearly how a page's PageRank is arrived at. But what isn't immediately obvious is that it can't work if the calculation is done just once. Suppose we have 2 pages, A and B, which link to each other, and neither have any other links of any kind. This is what happens:-
Step 1: Calculate page A's PageRank from the value of its inbound links
Page A now has a new PageRank value. The calculation used the value of the inbound link from page B. But page B has an inbound link (from page A) and its new PageRank value hasn't been worked out yet, so page A's new PageRank value is based on inaccurate data and can't be accurate.
Step 2: Calculate page B's PageRank from the value of its inbound links
Page B now has a new PageRank value, but it can't be accurate because the calculation used the new PageRank value of the inbound link from page A, which is inaccurate.
It's a Catch 22 situation. We can't work out A's PageRank until we know B's PageRank, and we can't work out B's PageRank until we know A's PageRank.
Now that both pages have newly calculated PageRank values, can't we just run the calculations again to arrive at accurate values? No. We can run the calculations again using the new values and the results will be more accurate, but we will always be using inaccurate values for the calculations, so the results will always be inaccurate.
The problem is overcome by repeating the calculations many times. Each time produces slightly more accurate values. In fact, total accuracy can never be achieved because the calculations are always based on inaccurate values. 40 to 50 iterations are sufficient to reach a point where any further iterations wouldn't produce enough of a change to the values to matter. This is precisely what Google does at each update, and it's the reason why the updates take so long.
One thing to bear in mind is that the results we get from the calculations are proportions. The figures must then be set against a scale (known only to Google) to arrive at each page's actual PageRank. Even so, we can use the calculations to channel the PageRank within a site around its pages so that certain pages receive a higher proportion of it than others.
NOTE:
You may come across explanations of PageRank where the same equation is stated but the result of each iteration of the calculation is added to the page's existing PageRank. The new value (result + existing PageRank) is then used when sharing PageRank with other pages. These explanations are wrong for the following reasons:-
1. They quote the same, published equation - but then change it
from PR(A) = (1-d) + d(......) to PR(A) = PR(A) + (1-d) + d(......)
It isn't correct, and it isn't necessary.
2. We will be looking at how to organize links so that certain pages end up with a larger proportion of the PageRank than others. Adding to the page's existing PageRank through the iterations produces different proportions than when the equation is used as published. Since the addition is not a part of the published equation, the results are wrong and the proportioning isn't accurate.
According to the published equation, the page being calculated starts from scratch at each iteration. It relies solely on its inbound links. The 'add to the existing PageRank' idea doesn't do that, so its results are necessarily wrong.

Small Potato (Wpdesigner.com) recently sold his blog for $65,000 to some Polish guy called Pawel Ciszewski. It is really amazing that the blog was sold for that much money even when it was not earning any substantial revenue. But anyway, I feel that he has made a wrong choice by selecting someone who is not related to the WordPress field and the blog is in jeopardy now. I guess he was in a hurry to pack his bags for his tours.
There has been no news posted since March 28, 2008 on the blog which is making the blog readers impatient and many have already unsubscribed from the blog. Pawel who is the new owner, promised the blog readers that he is hunting for theme designers and other staff who will run the blog. But its very ironical that there has been no update after that point. According to some readers’ research, Pawel Ciszewski runs some online casino sites. So, this really shows how much he will care about the reputed blog which was taken to a high level by his. But SP (small potato), shame on you… your baby (Blog) is dying out there and no one really cares.
If you read the history of Blog Oh! Blog, you will know that He...
This site was developed and authored by Bob Jiwakacau (nickname). Bob is a Malay amateur blogger living in small town (Malacca) on the south of Malaysia. When he designed Blogohblog.com blog, his aim was to share his knowledge, discovery and experience related to his hobby and work.

Hello!
So in all the hoopla surrounding the launch of Spottt two days ago, I haven’t had a chance to write our first blog post. So… here we go. :)
There’s a lot we plan to post here:
So put your email address in the “subscribe” box to the right, to make sure you get the updates.
To start things off, I’ll list some stats. We’ll continue to post interesting stats here in the blog, in addition to releasing tools that help you learn more about the Spottt community as it relates to your own site. But here are some general stats, approximately 52-hours since launch:
Okay, here is the weird thing. The image with the highest clickthrough rate (CTR)? The one with the squirrel? That’s for my personal site. I was apprehensive about posting this finding here, because people might think that I somehow rigged the system to give my image a higher percentage of clicks-to-impressions. But I didn’t.
I was surprised. Today, that image was shown 1,237 times, and clicked 129 times, on the same sites as everyone else’s Spottt. I have Spottts on 4 other sites, which aren’t doing quite as well. So the question is, why do people love that image so much, and what can we learn from it? More research is needed.
I’ll put together a blog post with the top-1o Spottt images with the highest CTR, and possibly lowest CTR. That should give us more info about what makes people click, and what does not.
Stay tuned, and thanks for using Spottt!
Rock on,
Philip Kaplan
Founder, Spottt

Here is the information to protect your computer from the Blaster Worm. You will know you have this virus if your computer keeps reporting errors with svchost.exe
You should also setup a firewall.
PSS Security Response Team Alert - New Worm: W32.Blaster.worm
SEVERITY: CRITICAL
DATE: Updated August 16, 2003 12:51 PDT
PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Services Edition, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation
Update: Microsoft has released a tool that can be used to scan a network for the presence of systems which do not have the MS03-026 patch installed. More details on this tool are available in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 826369. This tool is designed for enterprise administrators who have had difficulties detecting systems in need of security patch MS03-026. To go directly to the download page click here - MS03-026 Scanning Tool
An additional tool has been published to help system administrators. Microsoft Knowledge Base article 827227 describes a sample Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition script that is named Patchinstall.vbs. This script is an example of how a network administrator can use Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripting to install the 823980 (MS03-026) security patch on remote host computers that do not have the patch installed in a Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 domain environment. System administrators should read this Knowledge Base article to determine if the MS03-026 install tool can be appropriately leveraged in their environments.
WHAT IS IT?
The Microsoft Product Support Services Security Team is issuing this alert to inform customers about a new worm named W32.Blaster.Worm which is spreading in the wild. This virus is also known as: W32/Lovsan.worm (McAfee), WORM_MSBLAST.A (Trendmicro), Win32.Posa.Worm (Computer Associates). Best practices, such as applying security patch MS03-026 should prevent infection from this worm.
Date discovered: August 11, 2003. Customers who had previously applied the security patch MS03-026 are protected. To determine if the virus is present on your machine see the technical details below.
IMPACT OF ATTACK:
Spread through open RPC ports. Customer's machine gets re-booted or the file "msblast.exe" exists on customer's system.
TECHNICAL DETAILS:
This worm scans a random IP range to look for vulnerable systems on TCP port 135. The worm attempts to exploit the DCOM RPC vulnerability patched by MS03-026.
Once the Exploit code is sent to a system, it downloads and executes the file MSBLAST.EXE from a remote system via TFTP. Once run, the worm creates the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "windows auto update" = msblast.exe I just want to say LOVE YOU SAN!! bill
Symptoms of the virus: Some customers may not notice any symptoms at all. A typical symptom is the system is rebooting every few minutes without user input. Customers may also see:
- Presence of unusual TFTP* files
- Presence of the file msblast.exe in the WINDOWS SYSTEM32 directory
To detect this virus, search for msblast.exe in the WINDOWS SYSTEM32 directory or download the latest anti-virus software signature from your anti-virus vendor and scan your machine.
For additional information on recovering from this attack please contact your preferred anti-virus vendor. Please note there are several variants of this worm, and the most up-to-date information on these variants can be found at your preferred anti-virus vendor's web site.
RECOVERY:
Many Antivirus companies have written tools to remove the known exploit associated with this particular worm. To download the removal tool from your antivirus vendor follow the procedures outlined below.
For Windows XP
1. Enable the built in firewall such as Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=283673
--From your Windows Start menu, run the Control Panel. In the Control Panel, double-click "Networking and Internet Connections", and then click "Network Connections".

Contrary to popular opinion, dropping cards is not always the best way to earn credits. Selling valuable services in our shop, like blog reviews, can generate a small fortune of credits in a very small amount of time. When you sell a blog review in our shop, you earn all of the credits that someone spends to purchase the item/service from you. Blog reviews are simple and easy, and do a lot to help other bloggers achieve their goals.
So, if you have a decent blog and would like to “name your price” to write and publish a blog review, simply send a message to support@entrecard.com and ask for a seller token. This will give you the ability to sell your blog reviews in the shop and start earning more credits while doing what you love: blogging!
Alternatively, if you’d like to sell blog reviews in our shop, you can just comment on this post, and we’ll enable your account.

Is anyone familiar with the speed test to become on the top Entrecard 300 drop list?
Run this website speed test three (3) times on your website, and take the average of those three. If it's faster than the slowest site on the above list, then go on to Step 3. Make sure you're looking at the "Load Time" NOT the "Average Speed per KB"!!

Myths about the new Pricing
Just a few naturally occurring worries about the pricing change that have been floating around on the forums that seemed worth addressing.
Entrecard is doing this so we’ll have to buy credits now!
No, believe me this was never a consideration in the change, and if it becomes clear that people can’t reasonably advertise based on 100 drops a day or less, we will fix it somehow. Maybe you won’t get on Problogger for that without saving for a while, but in general you should be able to find and advertise on a few sites a day easily enough.
Nobody will drop anymore! my drops are already falling!
While your individual drops may be falling - changes in the way the categories are browsed will mean a bit of instability there - the overall drops have seen a marginal increase since the same time yesterday.
My blog isn’t worth 1024ec
Remember that the price your blog will spend most of its time at, is the price unit one higher than people are willing to pay. So if you spend almost all your time on 1024ec, your blog valuation by the community in general is 512ec - that’s what they’re willing to consistently pay for your spot.
It’s too early to really pay too much attention to those numbers.
These ad prices are way too high
Some of them are, yes absolutely, and we expect those to come down over the next couple of days. However over all the ad pricing is clearly affordable, we have a significant increase in ad purchases today vs the same time yesterday, and while partly that’s the result of a bit of a crazy spending spree by many users, we do expect it to pretty much continue at a slightly higher rate than before.
For those who are curious, EST time:
Midnight to 19:30, 7th: 5,938 ads purchased for 195,377ec total
Midnight to 19:30, 8th: 7,169 ads purchased for 349,591ec total
The higher total price is being taken as indicative that the prices more accurately match the value users judge of particular spots, and are therefore more willing to spend the credits it takes to advertise on a particular spot. One particularly good outcome if this trend continues is that we will be able to significantly reduce the “tax” rate on advert purchases, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Does anyone else think this is outrageous? prices jumped up so far, I guess I'm just suffering over my surgery yesterday

I keep reading about reality and reality can become very spooky for those who are an addict, reality world become a stressful world, I thank God that I have such a mellow boyfriend that doesn't seem to allow anything to bother him, and I love to be around him because everything seems to be so peaceful..."why stress over things" he says..."No one has died.." "RIGHT?" and I always say "NO" "NO one has died..." But for some reason I """"STRESS OUT"""..and maybe its over nothing, but at the time being, it seems to be everything...
I have alot going on this month about just making it to surgery ...the surgery itself isn't what I am worried about, other than the gas to get there...What a crazy screwed up world we live in that gas has to be just a an issue of cost of living...they knew all a long that gas was the number one thing that they could get us on..in the depression..it was the cost of food, but gas seems to be the number one thing that gets everyone...WOW..I have such a headache because of money... I will be back after my surgery... CLICK on link for detail

If you've been looking for an opportunity, this is it. If
you've been waiting for the right time to move forward, that
time has arrived.
On this day, you have the power to take action. In this
moment, you have the ability to make a difference.
Hopes, dreams and wishes can be powerful and compelling, yet
if they remain imprisoned within you, you'll never know
their true beauty and value. Now is when you can take the
very best of what's in you, and give it room to grow.
Reality is where you are right here and now. And the great
thing is, you're able to shape that reality as it arrives.
So take the opportunity to shape the reality of this day to
mirror the best that is within you. This is when your
values, your visions, and your unique essence can be given
expression and fulfillment.
The time is upon you to create and to experience life's
richness in your own special way. Fill it with meaning and
purpose, and fill it with all you are.

Most of today's women will live 25 to 30 years — one-third of their lives — after menopause. An understanding of the body's changes during this phase of life can ease the transition, and equally important, better prepare you to safeguard your health during your later years. There are many different considerations a woman needs to take as she approaches menopause. Specific treatment for menopausal symptoms will be determined by your doctor based on:
Your age, overall health, and medical history
Current symptoms
Your tolerance for specific medications, procedures, or therapies
Your opinion or preference

Nutrition - Watermelon is an excellent source of arginine
Nutritional Benefits of Watermelon - Watermelon is an excellent food source of the amino acid citrulline, which the human body uses to make the amino acid arginine, which helps cells divide, wounds heal, and ammonia to be removed from the body.
Watermelon also contains plentiful amounts of the health-promoting antioxidant lycopene as an added bonus.
L-arginine increases the body's ability to produce Nitric Oxide when needed, and restores sexual function in impotent men. Studies have shown that oral arginine boosts immunity, fights cancer, promotes healing, protects and detoxifies the liver, improves thymus function and enhances male fertility.
Blood levels of arginine, synthesized in the body from the citrulline provided by the watermelon juice, were 11 percent higher in volunteers tested after three weeks on the three-glasses-a-day regimen (24 ounces), and 18 percent higher following the six-daily-glasses regimen (48 ounces), when compared to levels in samples from volunteers who didn't drink the watermelon juice.
Medical researchers are currently evaluating arginine as a possible treatment for high blood pressure, elevated glucose levels and the vascular complications associated with sickle-cell disease.
If such studies pan out, concentrated forms of watermelon could represent an all-natural amino acid source. The fruit's good-for-the-body lycopene is an added bonus.
Perkins-Veazie is now focused on finding an optimal way of extracting citrulline from watermelon.
